39 years of innovation and passion for puppets

The company was founded in 1981 in Granada, Spain, by Enrique Lanz and Fabiola Garrido. The excellence and versatility of their work established Etcétera as a benchmark of quality in contemporary Spanish theater.

Etcétera has produced several shows, among which are: Sypnosis (1985), Trans (1990), Peter and the Wolf (1997), La serva padrona (1998), The Story of Babar the Elephant (2001), Dreaming the Carnival of the Animals (2004), El retablo de maese Pedro(2009), and The Box of Toys (2009). These creations have witnessed significant success, by opinion of audiences and critics alike, which has prompted Etcétera to appear at major international puppet and music festivals in a score of countries, and onstage at the most renowned performance art theaters of the Spanish scene.

Etcétera’s work could be defined as the staging of musicals with puppets for all audiences, but beyond this, what distinguishes its work is the poetry of its productions, achieved thorough a conscientious aesthetic pursuit of creating puppets, and continuous research, those are the axle and motor driving all projects.

We should note, for its great significance, the uninterrupted collaboration with the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, where Etcétera has debuted four shows starting with the 1999-2000 season.

One of Etcétera’s most recent releases, El retablo de maese Pedro, by Manuel de Falla, was a co-production with the Gran Teatre del Liceu, the Teatro Real, Teatro de la Maestranza, Teatro Calderón, the Bilbao Association of Friends of the Opera, and the Ópera de Oviedo, along with the collaboration of the Junta de Andalucía.

Between June 8, 2012 and July 2013, the exhibition Puppets. 30 years of Etcétera, on display at Granada’s Parque de las Ciencias, presents an anthology of Etcétera’s past thirty years.
