The Brave Little Tailor

Musical tale with puppets, shadows and projections

Premio Nacional de Teatro para la infancia y la juventud 2014 Ξ Premio Prestigio Turístico Nacional

Tibor Harsányi wrote this score for puppets in 1950 and interpreted the story of the Brothers Grimm himself. It is a suite for eight musicians and a narrator, who together retell this epic, tender and funny story.

Etcétera staged the work with objects from a tailor’s trade: patterns, mannequins, irons, scissors, bolts of cloth, and so on. As in the company’s other creations, there is a story within a story. In this case the theater’s costume department tells its version of the story, while introducing children to the world of theater tailoring, and teaches them the terms, instruments, and actions common to this job. This show is intended not only to disseminate literary and musical values, but also to shine a light on the theater occupations that are less visible to the audience by offering a contemporary interpretation of this classic tale.

«This Tailor is magical, is fragile, is funny. He is a breath of happiness and, without a doubt, one step further, another pebble that these friends are leaving for children to discover the path to enjoying culture and beauty.»
