Dreaming the Carnival of the Animals

From the musical work Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun by Claude Debussy, and The Carnival of the Animals by Camille Saint-Saëns

Premio Nacional de Teatro para la infancia y la juventud 2014 Ξ Premio Prestigio Turístico Nacional

Show premiered December 2004 at the Gran Teatre del Liceu, Barcelona

We imagine the dream of a faun, who’s dreaming of animals from Africa, Asia, and Australia — swimmers, fliers, big, small, slow, fast, prehistoric, farm; she even dreams of an orchestra. She dreams of music, music that makes us dream. We imagine an orchestra and a concert and we dream of C. Debussy and C. Saint-Saëns. We find ourselves in reality, a performance invaded by humor and poetry, by animals that emerge from music played by eleven animal musicians who perform fifteen pieces wrapped in musical fantasy. A chain of surprises no more logical than that of dreams, no other reason than the music itself, a number of animals without much more. We dream ourselves awake, immersed in a magical atmosphere. We imagine… What a carnival!
