Sypnosis

Script, scene design, production, performance and staging: Fabiola Garrido and Enrique Lanz

Production: Etcétera

Founding production, released December 1985 at the Centro Artístico de Granada

The action takes place in the workshop of a puppeteer. The escape of the cuckoo bird from a cuckoo clock initiates the beginning of three stories performed with different techniques (shadows and transparencies, black light, and puppetry) and in different spaces, whose only link is a symbolization of the passage of time. Etcétera didn’t borrow from any previous script, but rather from vague ideas that gave unity to the show, such as the intention to apply different puppetry techniques to different, interconnected spaces. Thus arose a stage that encompassed three venues that conformed to the entire show. Sypnosis is a work that allows for many interpretations, or none, it is a game of suggestive images, one piece or various pieces, a «synopsis» or «hypnosis:» «sypnosis.»

Sypnosis was active for eleven years and with it, the company toured intensely through the most important festivals of Europe, Cuba, and Iran. It was also the first stage show filmed in high definition for Televisión Española in 1994.
